Less Adoptable Pet Week

Emma shows how lovable she really is!
This week is Petfinder.com's Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week, a week dedicated to spotlighting those pets that are most often overlooked in shelters. It's all about getting people to take a second glance -- and give a second chance -- to those pets whose only crime is being a little older, the "wrong" color, or otherwise "less adoptable" -- but who have just as much love to give.

So who are these "less adoptable" pets? According to a survey of Petfinder member shelters and rescues the hardest to adopt out pets are senior or older pets, those with health problems (even minor ones), victims of breed prejudice (like Pit Bulls), shy pets, and those that need to be only pets. But that's not all! A lot of people overlook black and brindle dogs and cats as well. (Not convinced? Check Why Less Adoptable Pets Rule.) So next time you or a friend are looking to adopt, give these pets a second chance, a little more time and you never know, a less adoptable pet might just be the purrr-fect pet adoption for you!

Some would say that Emma was a less adoptable pet. She had heartworms and needed treatment, she is a black and white mixed breed dog, and she was very fearful when she first came home with use. Bailey is a brindle Catahoula. We could never imagine that WE could be LESS than adoptable! Let's be serious, we are sooo cute! So look beyond the outer package and give an animal a furever home! Check some less adoptable pets out online today.

Awesome dog tags!

About six months ago, mom bought us our own personalized jewelry. Well, personalized dog tags anyway. They are so cool! Poochy Couture was kind enough to create a special order for us too, so our tags are similar but not exactly the same. We love them. If you're looking for some snazzy tags, click here.

It was a dog park day!

Today we piled in the car and took a drive down to Port St. John. We went to the new dog park! Boy is it great. It was HUGE! When we got there, there were about 10 other dogs playing and having fun. We joined right in. Emma had to zoom around at top speed for several minutes, enjoying the open space. Bailey always keeps it a bit more sedate. We stayed about an hour. We give it 8 paws up for being big and muddy, two of our favorite things. Mom and Dad didn't take any pictures though, they were too busy chasing us around and trying to keep tabs on zooming Emma (bad parents!). We sure are tired! Here is a link to Fay Lake Wilderness Park info.

The park is nice with a lot of space, plenty of water and a few kiddie pools. Several chairs are lined up for parents to watch the fur kids too. There is also a nice hose to wash off all that dirt before you go home. Mom was happy about that!

Next time, we'll be heading to the dog park in Palm Bay. Don't worry, we'll be sure to tell you all about it!

Another cool event - put this one on your calendars! One of the Central Brevard Humane Society’s biggest fundraisers of the year is the 9th Annual Paws at the Pier. It will be held on Saturday, September 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cocoa Beach Pier in Cocoa Beach. This event is everyone’s favorite interactive pet-friendly fundraiser that includes the whole family and the “furry” friends. Some of this year’s activities will include live entertainment, pet contests (best dressed, best pet trick and pet/owner look-a-like), door prizes, silent auction and a vendor village.
